My name is Hamed Yaghmaeian.
I am an engineer by education with a graduate degree in photography
and a penchant for visual and cultural anthropology.
I am presently a lecturer of photography at University of Tehran college of FineArts.
I have been converging on Photographic Practice*
as an empowering medium within participatory community-based
local development projects, focused on cityscapes and social landscape.
As the next step, I concentrate on the saga of childhood
and the pivotal position of the child in family-the primordial nucleus of society;
and the promotional quality of photography to increase capacities,
and the ability of children and adolescents
to collectively inspire local communities.
In parallel, as a flaneur-photographer,
who has lived all his life under post-revolutionary circumstances,
I point my camera towards subjects that inspire me.
My own work as a freelance photographer began 20 years ago while I was a student of Chemical Engineering at University of Tehran. Within the politically charged atmosphere of the country in those days, the university found itself at the center of demonstrations and agitations. I wanted to tell my own story and because of this enthusiasm, I changed my roadmap. Upon graduation, I entered the master’s program at the College of Fine Arts University of Tehran and received my MFA.
I have always been passionate about meeting and reaching out to people, hearing their stories, and finally to make my own narratives, as a storyteller, both visual and in text. However, I was shy. In my solitude, I have focused on traces...
Human beings live within the framework of their dreamscapes and initial hopes. Within the tension-ridden societies, our hopes are met with both hidden and apparent violence … and solitude is a consequence of this kind of offensive situation. I believe my photographic practice narrates loneliness...
I also have an art atelier called "tanHA WORKROOM";
The Persian word tanHA is a play with words. It means "lonely" and "bodies".

The term "Photographic Practice" is borrowed from Pierre Bourdieu's groundbreaking book:
Photography: A Middle-Brow Art, Stanford University Press, 1996.
